More Bending the Rules…

Well, I don’t really think I’m bending any rules, but I sure am having fun with this book! I don’t think I will be able to stop making elf hats. I am thinking of making matching wee jackets for them. I saw a set someone else had made on Flickr and it was too cute. It’s very satisfying to use all recycled and reclaimed materials. None of my projects have cost me anything but my time and energy. Although I do covet some of the beautiful fabrics I see out there, especially the Japanese fabrics-SWOON, I love giving things new life. The Elf hat I just finished is made from a merino wool sweater of my brother’s that my mom accidentally shrunk. She brought it out when she came to visit. I fully felted it and *voila*! The crocheted flower was attached to a gift from a dear friend at my baby shower. Now I can look at it every time Audrey wears her hat. I have learned to save everything.Dsc05447_3

The Swing-swing smock will shortly be on it’s way to Lily, our friends’ daughter who turned one on Saturday. I know it’s late, but I know they’ll forgive me. I am so pleased with how the smock turned out. I couldn’t get Audrey to model it for me; same goes for the hat. Oh well- toddlers! And using a zig-zag stitch to attach bias binding-pure genius! It saved all within earshot of the string of expletives that usually can be heard when I try to use the stuff. It’s maddening. But with the zig-zag, I didn’t even use pins and it took me like 20 minutes. Now I want to use it on everything!Dsc05446_2

Audrey took a header on the back patio day before yesterday. She scraped up her nose and added to the bump on her her head that has been there for weeks. Luckily I was able to take this picture before the carnage…I entered her in the Yo-Baby Yogurt Cover Baby Contest. The winner gets a $5000.00 bond for college. Sure could use that! Who couldn’t? I think they should just use this shot-

She’s a winner to me already.Dsc05402_2
